The Wishing Well

Say the thing you actually need.

Tap one on the way down

A candle is for somebody else. A wish is for you.

It is the thing you would not say out loud at the dinner table, because saying it feels like complaining and you have already decided you are not allowed to complain.

One full night of sleep. For him to pick up the phone. For her to know my name on Thursday. For somebody to ask how I am and mean it. For one day where nothing goes wrong.

Nobody is going to grant it. That is not what a well is for. A well is for saying it somewhere other than the inside of your own head, and then letting it go in the water with everybody else's.

Your wish sinks in with the rest of them. You can put your name on it or you can stay out of it entirely.

A dollar a wish

How many wishes would you like to make?

Plainly: this is symbolic. Nothing is mailed to you and nobody is granting anything. What you get is your words in the water and a dollar of what you paid going toward the caregiver kits.

So you know the difference

Three ways to leave something

These do different jobs, and none of them replaces another.
